Salary Range: 60k – 65k 

TCDRS Retirement (2.5:1 Match @ 7%)

GENERAL SUMMARY 

This position provides for safe response of firefighting apparatus to Fire and EMS incidents and for effective operations of Pumper and special firefighting apparatus at emergencies and routine assignments. This position requires the ability to work shifts and contribute to a team approach in performing daily duties.  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

Duties include but are not limited to the following: 

 

  • Performs the duties of a fire fighter, but has additional responsibilities of driving, operating and maintaining fire department apparatus in a state of readiness. 

  • Respond to all alarms for fire, hazardous materials, and emergency medical services with designated equipment while on duty and individually when off duty as directed. 

  • As assigned, drive fire apparatus, locate apparatus at a fire; connects to fire hydrant, operates pumps to maintain desired pressures to support fire suppression activities. 

  • Perform required apparatus maintenance; cleaning of apparatus, inventory checks and inspections, maintaining apparatus in a condition of readiness, report mechanical failures or difficulties and missing or damaged equipment through proper chain of command. 

  • As assigned, provide fire suppression activities, emergency medical services, and light to heavy rescue functions. 

  • As assigned, perform fire prevention activities, company level inspections and pre-plans as assigned, and participate in public education for members and groups in the community.  

  • Performs related duties as required or assigned.  

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education/Experience/License/Certifications: 

  • Authorized to work in the U.S.  

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required 

  • Valid Texas Class B Driver's License  

  • Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Structure Firefighter certification 

  • Texas Commission on Fire Protection Driver/Operator-Pumper certification  

  • Current Texas Department of State Health Services Emergency Medical Technician certification 

  • Current American Heart Association certified BLS Provider 

 

 

 

Certifications required within 180 days of employment: 

NIMS- 100, 200, 700 and 800 

 

Physical Conditions:  

 

  • Essential and other important duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for adequate physical performance abilities including moderate and heavy lifting 

  • Bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing 

  • Ability to run, walk, stand, or sit for prolonged periods of time 

  • Ability to operate motorized equipment and assigned vehicles 

  • Adequate speech, hearing and eyesight required 

  • Carry, push, pull, drag, or hold moderate to heavy weight objects 

  • Strenuous and/or heavy exertion factors are required to perform this job 

  • Maintain mental capacity that permits making sound judgments regarding work and have regular attendance
